2014 Annual Meeting of the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society

For 2014 a joint annual meeting will be held between members of the Texas and Oklahoma Chapters of American Fisheries Society. The meeting will be held at Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center on Lake Texoma in Pottsboro, TX on February 13-15, 2014.
The theme of the Plenary Session is “Water: A Shared Resource and Responsibility”. The meeting will consist of a continuing education course, a plenary session, technical sessions,, and an evening social on Thursday, more contributed sessions, our banquet/auction on Friday evening, and remaining technical sessions and TCAFS and OKAFS business meetings on Saturday. Plenary Session (Thursday, 3:00 – 4:00 PM) Maritime Ballroom/Harbor Room
The theme for this years meeting is Water: A Shared Resource and Responsibility. Our plenary speaker is Barney Austin of Intera Geoscience & Engineering Solutions and his presentation is entitled Water Resources in Oklahoma and Texas: Seeing Red. A question and answer session will follow.

Student/Professional Mixer (Thursday, 6:30 – 9:00 PM) Back in the Maritime Ballroom/Harbor Room (where we had the technical sessions). There will be plenty of fun, as well as networking opportunities for students. Beverages will be provided.

Lunch (Friday, time period TBD) Friday’s lunch will be on your own, including the Student-Mentor Lunch. A buffet will be available at the resort for $10. To sign up for the student-mentor lunch, check the appropriate spot on the meeting registration form or contact Michael Homer (michael.homer@tpwd.texas.gov; 979-272-1430).
Banquet and Auction (Friday, 6:00 – 10:00 PM) Supper and beverages will be provided as part of the registration price along with the famously entertaining TCAFS auction and raffle. This year we will have two auctioneers (one from Texas and one from Oklahoma) in a tag team extravaganza.
Past-presidents Breakfast (Saturday, 7:00 am) Past Presidents and current Chapter Officers for the Texas Chapter will meet for a complimentary breakfast in the convention center’s Galley Room adjacent to the restaurant.

Meeting Registration
The early registration fee will be $90 for professionals and $45 for students, and includes access to continuing education workshops, Thursday night Student/Professional Mixer, all plenary and technical sessions, and the Friday night banquet. Important –The deadline for early registration is January 24, 2014. Late registration will increase by $15 for professionals and $10 for students. Fees for extra guest banquet tickets will be $35.

Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center is located in Pottsboro Texas on the banks of Lake Texoma. 290 Tanglewood Circle Pottsboro, TX 75076
From Dallas: Go north on US Hwy 75 to exit 69 (Hwy 120-Pottsboro/Denison). Take a left onto Hwy 120 and go west through Pottsboro. At the west end of town, Hwy 120 makes a hard right and turns into Hwy 289. Follow Hwy 289 for 2 ½ miles to the main entrance on the left. Follow the main road for 2 ½ miles to the Resort.
From D/FW, Mid-Cities and Fort Worth: Follow I-35 North to Gainesville and exit Hwy 82 East. Take Hwy 82 East to Hwy 289 North. Follow Hwy 289 North approximately 10 miles to the main entrance on the left. Follow the main road for 2 ½ miles to the Resort.
From Oklahoma City and Central Oklahoma: Take I-35 South until you come to Hwy 82 East. Take Hwy 82 East to Hwy 289 North. Follow Hwy 289 North approximately 10 miles to the main entrance on the left. Follow the main road for 2 ½ miles to the Resort.
From Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma: Take US Hwy 75 South to exit 69. Take a right onto Hwy 120 and go west through Pottsboro. At the west end of town Hwy 120 makes a hard right and turns into Hwy 289. Follow Hwy 289 for 2 ½ miles to the main entrance on the left. Follow the main road for 2 ½ miles to the Resort. I encourage all those needing commercial lodging to stay at the resort to ensure we meet our room block obligations. Room rates are $77 single and $105 for a double; rates do not include a 10% resort fee and 6% occupancy tax. The number to call to make your reservation is 1-800-833-6569.
