{"id":440,"date":"2015-11-12T14:13:17","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T20:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/virtuallearn.wpengine.com\/fits\/?p=440"},"modified":"2018-03-20T14:15:11","modified_gmt":"2018-03-20T19:15:11","slug":"conference-call-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/units.fisheries.org\/fits\/2015\/11\/12\/conference-call-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Call"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>FITS Executive Committee Conference Call Notes: November 12, 2015<\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>AFS Web Updates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Website needs role out \u2013 Doug Austin 22 Oct, has contract with IMIS Group (for portal work. 4-6 weeks from this date to online.\u00a0 Julie will follow up on launch date and reiterate that the ESAB should have the ability to review.<\/li>\n<li>Spreadsheet of issues \u2013 nothing critical from FITS\/ESAB perspective.<\/li>\n<li>Some question of FITS vs ESAB roles form leadership so Julie will clarify this distinction at next meeting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FITS Web &amp; Newsletter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current newsletter is out. We have some items ready to go for next one.<\/li>\n<li>Nick, Tom &amp; Jeff O. now have access to modify FITS web pages.\n<ul>\n<li>Document under development so others could take on this task PRN.<\/li>\n<li>Jeff to update officers\u2019 page and review other sections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Glen Hallowell would like to us to make members aware of new software.\n<ul>\n<li>Currently our software reviewer is Gary Ash but he may be inactive. Julie will contact to determine if he is still interested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Should we have an archive\/museum section to the software page?\n<ul>\n<li>Clearly items like Palm based tech is no longer applicable.<\/li>\n<li>We may have some of the only existing copies of older software.<\/li>\n<li>Often no replacement options exist so the archive may help others with code help and\/or historic perspective.<\/li>\n<li>Julie will reach out to members to gather input on archive and a list of what is current and what isn\u2019t for most users. This will also help people see FITS role in the AFS community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FITs Numbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Member numbers vs viable emails have been recorded in a local DB. Julie will manage for now and look into how to share this responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>Renewal of AFS membership has not charge to join FITS. Looks like the problem effects several sections.\u00a0 Julie will contact Doug Austin to look into a fix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Data Standards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fish data management is convinced to use available PNAMP tools but need help in getting funding.<\/li>\n<li>OFWIM is working on a list of existing data standards so they may be willing to help on this front.<\/li>\n<li>Data standard success stories have been based on legal obligation so not helping most other agencies get onboard.<\/li>\n<li>End user tools would help get people to buy in:\n<ul>\n<li>Where are the end user tools?!? Everyone should submit toolbox ideas.<\/li>\n<li>What other benefit to help get onboard?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We have older presentations to help document an effective path.
