The Fisheries Information & Technology Section is extending the deadline for President-elect nominations by one week (now due 7 May 2019<\/strong>). Put your name in the hat today, or nominate someone that you know. Only FITS<\/span>\u00a0members are eligible.<\/p>\n

As President-elect, you will spend two years assisting with decision-making and planning as a member of the Executive Committee. A typical year involves section and parent meetings, organizing a conference workshop and symposium, and awarding a travel grant \u2013 plus exciting opportunities to be involved in initiatives both within and outside of AFS. You will then take on a greater leadership role for a two-year term as President and member of the AFS Governing Board, and continue to provide advice and perspective to the Executive Committee during a final, two-year term as Past-President.<\/p>\n

This is your opportunity to shape the actions of and direction of\u00a0FITS<\/span>, and gain leadership experience within AFS. Past Section work has focused on providing guidance and information to section members and the wider AFS community on the existence, use, and implementation of various technologies and aspects of information management; fostering the discussion and exchange of new ideas, methodologies, and tools related to fisheries technologies and information; and providing existing, new, and future fisheries professionals with the information and technological skills necessary to excel. Current projects include education on big data management, standardization of data exchange and metadata collection, and creation of a technical series focusing on fisheries applications of new technology. There is always room for fresh ideas in\u00a0FITS<\/span>!<\/p>\n

Please submit your nominations to President-Elect Paul Venturelli at\u00a0pventurelli@bsu.edu<\/a>, by 7 May 2019<\/strong>. If you are nominating someone else, then we only need a name. If you are nominating yourself, then please include

\nA 1-paragraph statement of interest\/qualification\/vision (max 200 words); and
