Still unclear on process and waiting for further information from AFS leadership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CEC workshop (Paul)\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting organizers have indicated that we will still be holding CE classes; however, they are not sure at this point what the format will be. Information is expected in the coming weeks. <strong>Action item:<\/strong> Paul will email Keith to see if there is interest in participating if pre-recorded or live.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CFTC online (Rebecca)\n<ul>\n<li>Rebecca has received many inquiries from different types of vendors. She is working with those venders to help them understand the process and how they fit within the site.<\/li>\n<li>Currently populating the system and working on issues.<\/li>\n<li>FITS would be responsible for moderating comments. We may be asking the membership for volunteers to take on this responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>Jason Doll is working in parallel to build software solutions into the system (for analyses, visualization, GIS, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Travel award\n<ul>\n<li>We have decided to delay the July announcement\/invitation until early fall because we do not yet know if fall and\/or winter meetings will be face to face.<\/li>\n<li>If Excom has any additional comments on the revised application, send those to Rebecca.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>By-law amendment to 4-year election cycle (Paul)\n<ul>\n<li>Feedback was received from various members of FITS. Some agreeing and disagreeing with the proposed changes.<\/li>\n<li>After discussion, the ExCom has a revised proposal. We would like to update and revise officer roles of the Past President and President Elect to include specific responsibilities pertaining to the 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> years of these positions.<\/li>\n<li>The President Elect\u2019s 1<sup>st<\/sup> year will serve as a \u201clearning year\u201d while responsibilities will increase in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> year with guidance from the Past President.<\/li>\n<li>The Past President\u2019s role in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> year will have fewer responsibilities and will focus on mentoring the President Elect.<\/li>\n<li>Next steps\n<ul>\n<li>Thank members for feedback, propose redefining roles for officers and send out for second round of feedback. <strong>Action item:<\/strong> Paul will draft message to membership .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Other business\n<ul>\n<li>FITS articles in Fisheries (Sarah).\n<ul>\n<li>No updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Rep on the Resource Policy Committee (to replace Jodi Whittier)\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Action item:<\/strong> Paul will draft message to membership about this role and what to do if interested in this position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Next Meeting is August 14<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFS Fisheries Information and Technology Section Executive Committee Meeting Minutes July 10, 2020 Attendees: Rebecca Krogman, Paul Venturelli, Tiffany Hopper, Kayla Key, Dan Weaver Virtual AFS meeting Big Data symposium (Dan) 9 presentations Pre-recorded talks with live discussion talks.
