{"id":992,"date":"2020-08-17T09:19:45","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T14:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/units.fisheries.org\/fits\/?p=992"},"modified":"2020-08-17T09:19:53","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T14:19:53","slug":"request-for-comments-on-revised-bylaw-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/units.fisheries.org\/fits\/2020\/08\/17\/request-for-comments-on-revised-bylaw-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Request for comments on revised bylaw changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">Dear FITS members,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">Thank you to all who commented on the proposed bylaw changes to reduce the length of time that a president serves from 6 to 4 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">Support was mixed, but a common concern was that serving as president for 1 year instead of 2 is insufficient time on the Governing Board to adequately benefit the president, section, or society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">The ExCom met to discuss all feedback, and develop a revised proposal that preserves the 6-year term, but defines the President-Elect and Past President roles in a way that is intended to reduce the burden of service. We are proposing the following roles<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0The President Elect\u2019s first year will be \u201clearning year\u201d year in which they are expected to attend ExCom meetings, but are not obligated to take on any responsibilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">\u00a0&#8211; The President Elect\u2019s second year will include responsibilities that are developed with guidance from the Past President.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;color: black\">\u00a0&#8211; The Past President\u2019s second year will involve fewer responsibilities, and will focus on mentoring the President Elect<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please share your thoughts on this potential change via email to Kayla.Key@tn.gov by\u00a0<strong>4 September 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your input!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your FITS ExCom<\/p>\n<p>Paul Venturelli, President<\/p>\n<p>Tiffany Hopper, President-Elect<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Krogman, Past President<\/p>\n<p>Kayla Key, Secretary-Treasurer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear FITS members, Thank you to all who commented on the proposed bylaw changes to reduce the length of time that a president serves from 6 to 4 years.
