Hey hey Fish Habitat Section members, we’ve seen a wonderful response in shifting our news to Fishbook! We’ve already had three member-submitted announcements about AFS symposia, calling for papers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve also gotten a few questions which I wanted to address now that we’ve had a week to see how it all works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, for those of who were unsure about Fishbook, it is an AFS-created community website (aka, social medium but only with cool people) which was built over the last few years. It is now ready to be fully utilized, and its tools are designed specifically to support groups like AFS Sections and Technical Committees. It has discussion forums, photo and file sharing, limited access when smaller\/private conversations are needed, and easy info sharing for members. It is hosted by AFS at https:\/\/fishbook.fisheries.org\/<\/a> or fishbook DOT fisheries DOT org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, you can subscribe or unsubscribe to any updates, so although I invited you all to the website, you can absolutely unsubscribe if you don’t want Section updates. You can also unsubscribe or subscribe to specific forum topics. You may have received several emails this past week with notifications of the news posted in the general “Posts” section. That was exciting because it worked! But also, if you don’t want each update, you can remove yourself from that thread by logging in and clicking the “bell symbol” in the upper-right corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This bell symbol also appears on specific discussion topics. I have created a new topic dedicated to the 2026 Annual Meeting, so please post additional announcements there instead of the general feed! That will keep people’s emails a little cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third, we will post Section documents here as well, such as meeting minutes and awards photos. Again, think of this as a Facebook for fish heads, but without the annoying algorithm or ads. Fishbook is a service provided by AFS as a benefit to its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this new communication system, which will replace this newsletter. Thank you for rolling with it as we learned more this past week! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
