Student-Mentor Lunch

The Student-Mentor Lunch will take place on Saturday, February 3rd at the lunch break from 11:30am-1pm. Students will be paired with a professional based on career preferences and interests. Signs ups for the Student-Mentor Lunch were available through the Registration form. All students and mentors have been contacted.

Division-Wide Student Opportunities

We are seeking student volunteers to help run the 2024 meeting of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society in Chattanooga, TN from February 1-4, 2024. 
 
Possible job responsibilities including AV assistance, silent auction booth assistance, registration desk support and poster set up, but volunteers will not be asked to work the entire meeting.
 
In return, volunteers will receive complementary lodging for the duration of the meeting, with two people per hotel room. 
 
Registration will not be covered by this opportunity. See registration numbers below:
Early student registration (national AFS member, closes 12/15/23): $140
Early student registration (non-national AFS member, closes 12/15/23): $180
Late student registration (national AFS members, 12/16/23-1/26/24): $180
Late student registration (non-national AFS members, 12/16/23-1/26/24): $220
Walk-up student registration (national AFS members, 1/31/24-2/4/24) : $220
Walk-up student registration (non-national AFS members, 1/31/24-2/4/24) : $260
 
Students will be selected based off of need. You will be required to enter information about your academic advisor in case we need to contact them to confirm the information you submit. 

 

TENNESSEE STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Tennessee Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (TNAFS) will be fully funding one student to attend the 2024 meeting of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society (SDAFS) in Chattanooga, TN from February 1-4, 2024. Full funding will include a room at the Chattanooga Marriott Downtown (conference hotel; including parking), student registration, a national AFS membership (if not currently a member), travel (mileage at CONUS rate or airplane ticket/shuttle/parking), and per diem (CONUS rate minus provided meals).

Eligibility requirements:
-Must be a student (undergraduate or graduate) currently enrolled in a college or university in Tennessee.
-Must have a financial need to attend this meeting i.e., you would not be able to attend without the support of this scholarship.
-Must be able to volunteer for 8 hours during the meeting.

Volunteer responsibilities may include audio/visual assistance, auction booth assistance, registration desk support and poster set up.

Best Student oral Presentation & Best Student Poster

SDAFS offers students the opportunity to submit oral presentations in the Student Competition symposia. Students are also able to submit abstracts for other symposia or general sessions if they do not wish to compete. Any student who submits a poster abstract will be included into the Best Student Poster competition. Please see Poster Presentation information below.

Student Awards will be announced at the Grand Social on Saturday 2/3 at 7:00pm in the Lupton Room.
