2020 Meeting – Gatlinburg, TN – CANCELLED

Dear Tennessee AFS Membership:

As many of you are aware, the number of reported cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has continued to increase in Tennessee. Over the past week, several institutions, federal agencies and neighboring states have established travel restrictions for their students and employees. Given the impact of these restrictions on our membership, and our responsibility for the well-being of our fisheries community, the Executive Committee has regretfully decided to cancel the 2020 Tennessee Chapter of the American Fisheries Society meeting in Gatlinburg, TN.

The Chapter will begin working to refund registration for all pre-paid attendees as soon as possible. However, if you have booked rooms at the Edgewater Hotel, you will need to call 1-800-423-9582 to cancel your reservation. If there are any issues in getting reserved rooms reimbursed, please let Mark Rogers know.

We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause and hate that we won’t be able to gather this year. Despite not being able to meet in person the Chapter still has business that needs to be conducted. We will be in touch as we move forward about virtual and online capabilities to conduct TNAFS Chapter business including officer elections.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out directly with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Brandon Simcox (President)

Mark Rogers (President-Elect)

Brenda Pracheil (Past-President)

Shawna Mitchell Fix (Secretary-Treasurer)

Also, here is a message from Shawna about the reimbursements:

Members,
I am starting the meeting reimbursement process this morning. Those that paid on Square, I will issue you a refund through the site. Refunds will take up to seven days to process. I will be emailing refund receipts as well. If you don’t receive a receipt by Monday, please let me know and I will take care of that for you.
Those that paid by check, I will be mailing those out early next week.
I will only be reimbursing meeting registration and workshop costs. If you paid your dues with us, you will be in good standing with the chapter for the year. Chapter business meetings will ONLY be conducted with paid members, so if you would like to have a say in business matters, make sure you pay your dues. If you aren’t sure if you have paid, I would be happy to to check that for you.
Those that purchased Tangerine Darter tshirts, I will personally reach out to to figure out how we can get your shirts to you. If you were interested in purchasing one of our new Bluegill tshirts that were ordered for this year’s meeting, hang tight, EXCOM will be discussing these matters in the coming weeks.
Please reach out to the chapter email with anything that you may need from me.
Thank you for your patience while I work through this,
Shawna Mitchell Fix
TNAFS Secretary-Treasurer
