Nominations for the 2025 Stanley A. Moberly Award for Outstanding Contributions in Fish Habitat Conservation and the Rising Star Award for Outstanding Early-Career Contributions in Fish Habitat Conservation are now being accepted! Both awards were developed by the AFS Fish Habitat Section in partnership with NOAA Fisheries and the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP). Student Travel Awards are also available for the AFS Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX August 10 – 14, 2025.
Stanley A. Moberly Award

Stanley A. Moberly Award: The Moberly Award was established in 2019 to annually recognize the efforts of as many as three individuals, groups, or projects with an outstanding, long-term record of success in research, management, policy, communications, education, or other fields that support fish habitat conservation. The award is named after AFS President Stanley A. Moberly (1987-1988) whose leadership, vision, and 20+ years of effort helped to establish the National Fish Habitat Partnership. NFHP includes 20 regional fish habitat partnerships, overlapping all 50 states, working diligently to enhance, conserve, and restore fish habitats. Past recipients of the Moberly Award include Stan Moberly (2019), Jeff Boxrucker (2020), Christopher Estes (2021), and Tom Bigford (2022), Mark Porath and Don Gabelhouse (2023), Stan T. Allan (2024).
To be eligible for the Moberly Award, nominees must have been actively engaged in conservation-related fish habitat activities for at least 20 years of professional experience in freshwater, coastal, and/or marine systems. Nomination packages should include a cover letter and up to three support letters OR up to two support letters and a CV. The total amount of material for a package is capped at 10 pages.

Rising Star Award for Outstanding Early-Career Contributions in Fish Habitat Conservation
Rising Star Award: The Rising Star Award was established in 2019 to recognize the outstanding early-career contributions of students and early professionals in the field of fish habitat conservation. This award recognizes the achievements of individuals who achieve early-career success on projects related to fish habitat research, policy, management, education, project implementation, communications and outreach, or some other endeavor in freshwater, coastal, and/or marine environments. Past recipients of the Rising Star Award include Rebecca Krogman (2019), Evan Hayduk (2020), Michael Homer (2021), and Joe Nohner (2022), Robin DeBruyne (2023), Sean Lusk (2024).
To be eligible for the Rising Star Award, nominees must be a graduate student (MS or PhD) or an early-career professional who completed the project(s) they are being recognized for within 10 years of graduating with their terminal degree.
