The purpose of the AFS Physiology Section is to promote excellence in the science of fish physiology.

The AFS Physiology Section is committed to facilitating communication between researchers and other professionals regarding state-of-the-art science, tools, and techniques on the physiology of fishes. In support of this commitment, the AFS Physiology Section oversees the International Congress on the Biology of Fishes, a preeminent meeting of fish physiologists from around the world for the dissemination of results from basic and applied research on fish physiology to the scientific and professional community, resource users, and the general public.
