Description: The College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA), the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES), and the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering (SMSOE) seek to fill a Postdoctoral Diversity and Innovation Scholar position in the broad area of aquaculture. UNH’s aquaculture research and outreach are important in advancing New England’s shellfish propagation, kelp farming, and ocean-caged and land-based fish farming. We aim to provide outstanding opportunities for underrepresented postdoctoral scholars to advance in their aquaculture training, scholarship, and teaching through mentorship with our faculty and enhanced professional development.
Aquaculture research is conducted throughout many UNH units and the successful postdoctoral scholar will be matched with the most appropriate mentor(s) based on research interests. Areas of research foci may include selective breeding, physiology, nutrition, behavior, disease-related mechanisms, integrated multi-trophic systems, replenishment, enhancement, and/or systems that facilitate restoration and estuarine health. The postdoctoral scholar will work closely with faculty mentors to develop an independent research program at UNH that can be regionally or internationally focused. Scholars will be supported by the NHAES and will have the opportunity to apply for research project grants to support novel research projects. In addition to a broad range of farms and aquatic environments, scholars will have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities labs with both fresh and saltwater recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), the UNH Instrumentation Center, the Hubbard Genome Center, and our extensive marine infrastructure that includes the Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, Coastal Marine Laboratory, Shoals Marine Laboratory, and a research vessel fleet of numerous small boats, the R/V Gulf Challenger, and a new Regional Class Research Vessel that is part of the East Coast Oceanographic Consortium.
This position conveys additional professional development opportunities including participation in university governance, early career and faculty development academies, monthly cohort meetings, and workshops on teaching and learning. Scholars also will have opportunities to mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers and will teach one class annually.
