Congratulations to the following award recipients, announced during the 2014 AFS Annual Meeting in Quebec.

Stevan Phelps Memorial Best Paper Award: Helen Neville and Louis Bernatchez.

The Genetics Section presented the 2014 Stevan Phelps Memorial Award to Helen Neville and Louis Bernatchez for their paper, “Neville H., and L. Bernatchez. 2013. Coding Gene Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Population Genetics of Nonnative Brook Trout: The Ghost of Introductions Past. Transactions of the American Fisheries Society 142(5):1215-1231.”





James E. Wright Graduate Award: Ryan Waples.

The Genetics Section presented the 2014 James E. Wright Graduate Award to Ryan Waples, who is completing his M.S. degree at the University of Washington under the direction of Drs Jim and Lisa Seeb. Ryan presented a paper titled, “How to Use Reduced-Representation Genomic Methods to Estimate Contemporary Effective Population Size,” in the “Big Data Science and Its Impacts on Fish Conservation and Management” Symposium.





Robert L. Kendall Best Paper in TAFS: Andrea Drauch Schreier.

The AFS presented the 2014 Robert L. Kendall Best Paper Award to Andrea Drauch Schreier for her paper, “Drauch Schreier, A., B. Mahardja, and B. May. 2013. Patterns of Population Structure Vary Across the Range of the White Sturgeon. Transactions of the American Fisheries Society 142:1273-1286.”

Coastwide Salmon Genetics Meeting Travel Award: Wes Larson.

The Genetics Section presented a student travel award to Wes Larson to attend the 2014 Coastwide Salmon Genetics Meeting in Juneau Alaska from 2-5 June. Wes is completing his Ph.D. at the University of Washington under the direction of Drs. Jim and Lisa Seeb.
