Potassium Permanganate
Potassium permanganate is used for rapid deactivation of rotenone.
Good rotenone stewardship results from the prudent use of the product by taking responsibility of reducing environmental impacts. Consistent with this, rotenone moving off-site typically in flowing streams must be deactivated. Rapid deactivation is achieved with the addition of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) in liquid or solid form. Most liquid applications of KMnO4 use a reservoir with a metering devise to dispense a 2.5% w/v solution at a constant measurable rate. However, in many cases, it is preferable to apply granular KMnO4 using a metering devise like an auger.
