Our Mission
The primary purpose of establishing a Joint Committee on Fisheries Engineering and Science is to create a professional ‘home’ for fisheries engineers and scientists within the American Society of Civil Engineers-Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE-EWRI) and the American Fisheries Society-Bioengineering Section (AFS-BES).
Fisheries Engineering is a broad field that includes, but is not limited to, work and research in fish passage, fish screening, hydropower technology, habitat protection and restoration, fishing gear and bycatch reduction, and hatchery and aquaculture technology. This Joint Committee will build upon the work of previous committees, including EWRI’s Ad Hoc Committee on Fish Passage, and will continue to foster communication and work on projects of common interest between both parent organizations.
