The time has come, MacGyver. The Data and Technology Section is calling on YOU to submit your abstract for our 4th annual “MacGyvering: Innovative Problem Solving in Fisheries Science” Symposium at the American Fisheries Society national conference in San Antonio 2025.
Do you want to share your solutions to fisheries dilemmas with a wider audience of likeminded Fisheries MacGyvers?
We want to hear about your successes and failures. Submit your abstract if you’d like to highlight your inventions, repurposed technologies/analytical tools, and start some broader conversations that may spark research and development to further fisheries science.
“The best way to beat a problem is to make it work for you, by submitting to the MacGyver symposium no later than April 22, 2025″ – Angus MacGyver

Description: Fisheries scientists are often successful in “MacGyvering” innovative solutions to a question or problem. They do this by inventing, building, or repurposing technology or analytical tools, especially when resources or tools are limited or absent. Over time, these innovative solutions created important breakthroughs and broadened research capabilities in our field.
