Deadline Extensions for AFS Best Student Presentation/Poster Awards

Worried you or your student missed the deadline to submit for the AFS Best Student Presentation/Poster Award at the Baltimore meeting? There’s still time!

High school, undergraduate, or graduate students who have recently completed research can still be considered for AFS Best Student Presentation or Poster Awards for 2021, but applications are only open for 2 more weeks!

To be selected as a finalist for the presentation award, students will need to submit an extended abstract AND an advisor support letter stating that the research project is in a completion stage. Examples of extended abstracts can be found on the AFS Education Section webpage (https://education.fisheries.org). For consideration as finalists for the poster award, students will need to submit the abstract they submitted for the annual meeting AND an advisor support letter stating that the research project is in a completion stage.

Applications should be emailed to Melissa Wuellner (BSP Co-chair) at wuellnermr@unk.edu by 9/1/21. Applications will be evaluated following the criteria provided on the Education Section webpage. Finalists will be notified within four weeks of the deadline.

All finalists will need to be registered for the AFS annual meeting but do not have attend the meeting in person. Virtual attendance is also acceptable. If selected, recordings of presentations and posters will need to be uploaded to the AFS conference system no later than one week prior to the start of the meeting.

Judges will review the finalists’ recordings and announce the winners during the annual meeting. Winners in each category will receive $450.00 (USD) check and a plaque. Don’t delay in applying for one of the Society’s top student awards!
